SPORTS

Introduction

The sports forum provides a platform for the discovery, appropriation; pursuit and fulfilling of the passion of sports men and women called to make a difference through establishing an alternative standard in the sports realm. Sporting talents, gifts and especially those who are called into sports are scattered throughout BCI. It has been a great tragedy to watch these gifted individuals submit their call to the dictation and fashioning of worldly sport institutes that at the end compromises their values, convictions and stands for God for short lived moments of glory.

Sporting talents and gifts are divinely dispensed for a purpose far superior than the enjoyment of sport itself and the opportunities that it provides. It is truly for the exaltation of God who gives these gifts sparingly, impacting humans for eternity and advancing his rule and values in this realm. Anything below this intention indicates a life that is lived below its potential, influence and purpose. Many kingdom sports individuals have received in plenty the applause, ovation and praise of man but have missed out completely on the commendation of heaven.

This division exists to ensure that those who are called by God into the sports arena execute and finish God’s purpose as their highest priority above all else. It is the finishing of his purpose that gives true fulfillment and satisfaction.

Vision
“Raising sports people of a kingdom standard to affect permanent change in the sports world”

Strategy

  • Breakthrough churches throughout BCI runs regular sports workshops,  sessions and programmes within their forum that deals with sports as a calling; spiritual and mental fitness; kingdom lifestyle (values and principles); endurance and finishing; maintaining a healthy connection to their local churches

  • Other aspects of sports that are discussed in these sessions are nutrition, physical fitness, skills based workshops and sports management.

  • Seasoned sporting individuals who are succeeding and accelerating in their fields provide encouragement, inspiration, guidelines and support for the emerging sports people

  • International gatherings and conferences are scheduled so that sports people from the all over BCI and from other networks interact and interrelate to encourage and impart to each other on an international level

  • A BCI Sport Institute will be an ultimate goal of the sports forum where future kingdom sports individuals are trained, educated, coached and appropriated for their calling in sports. The sports institute will stand as an alternative to other sports institutions already existing in the earth. What differentiates the BCI sports institute from others will be the spirit, philosophy, values and principles that dictate the entire operation of the institute

  • Lastly, the business aspect of sports will be seriously considered because we want sports people to resort to business in their particular field of sports once their season of active sporting pursuits ends. This will be a viable aspect of making money for kingdom advancement.

TAG WORLD CUP 2007 - AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

The increased popularity of Tag over the last five years has resulted in the inaugural Tag World Cup, which was hosted in Auckland during the 23rd -25th of February. At its current growth rate, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Tag soon overtakes Touch, as New Zealand’s most participated summer sport.

After an exhibition tournament last year which featured only the Pacific nations, the Australian and New Zealand tag communities decided to expand their annual Trans-Tasman series and invited other nations, thus birthing this years Inaugural Tag World Cup.

Apart from the New Zealand and Australian teams, Western Samoa & American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, New Zealand Maori, Tonga, Lebanon and The Aboriginals - both from Australia had teams entered. The populace range were divided into sections, being Men’s, Women’s & Mix and the grades being the Open, over 30's, over 35's, over 40's and (I think) over 45's.

Many members from BC Auckland were involved representing various Pacific Nations within the tournament. Tonga had the most representatives from Breakthrough Auckland community with 5 players in the squad, Samoa had the Tuia brothers of ‘Otomit Warrior' and Mose donning the colours while the Fijians had the services of 3 other church members.

The passion and pride shown by all nations was evident for all to see, from anthems to native chants and unforgettably fierce war dances from the daring. The Island drums provided by the local Cook Island community also added to the flavour of the occasion. In the end the main finals of each grade were contested by the New Zealand and Australian teams, however Samoa won 3 plate finals and should be proud of these achievements.

I believe that this Inaugural World Cup was a huge success as the standard and intensity of play was of very high quality. Here’s hoping for the continual success Tag is making both here in Kiwiland and over the Ditch but also into different corners of the globe and roll on the Next World Cup!

Until next time, keep working hard because "there is never a substitute for HARD WORK!!!!!"
Much Love
